Penang Char Kuey Teow in Klang Valley

Penang, the state which is well known as food heaven as the state is famous for local delights like Hokkien mee, char kuey teow, cendol, loh bak, etc. Born as Penang native, I’m so used with the Penang state taste where now I’m having difficulty to find the same quality and taste as Penang Char kuey teow in Klang Valley area. So I started to hunt for the best kuey teow with Penang signature.

I tried out countless plates of char kuey teow in Klang Valley, and then I came across three shops in Klang Valley that serves char kuey teow with the Penang signature which are Robert CKT at Restaurant Say Huat, Kam Heong Kopitiam, PJ State and Restaurant Jamal Mohamed with Aunty Gemuk Char Kway Teow.
I would say that Robert Char Kway Teow is one of the most affordable and good char kuey teow you that can in Petaling. The keuy teow was served on a banana leaf, with all classic char kuey teow ingredients included like prawns, cockles, bean sprouts, Chinese chives (ku chai), egg, and garlic. Robert CKT is certainly worthy of an alternative to Penang’s char kuey teow.

Aunty Gemuk kuey teow is another option for Char kuey teow lovers especially to those who prefer pork-free or halal char kuey teow, Aunty Gemuk at Restaurant Jamal Mohamed at Kelana Jaya serves up a pretty good dish. The char kuey teow here are succulent and springy, a little wet, almost similar to Malay-style versions of the dish. It is very flavourful and one of my favourite pork-free char kuey teow ever.

For more details on Restaurant Jamal Mohamed, visit here.

Kam Heong kopitiam in PJ State is quite famous as the kuey teow served here is slightly fatter, and it comes with large amount of lard as well. Besides the char kuey teow cooked in Chinese char kway teow style and I would say it is definitely satisfying.

I must say that Robert CKT and Aunty Gemuk char kuey teow lives up to the expectations. The combination of all the classic ingredients, and the good quality and taste of kuey teow definitely contributed to the “original” Penang CKT taste.
